This candy was invented because, Mau Loa just needed a different taste and variety of candy added into the mix. However, it was later tested to see if there was a possibility of it causing possible sickness for tourists and Hawaiian natives. A few years earlier, Mau Loa had a tourist complain of getting sick right after taking the tour of the candy factory, and purchasing the candy. This certain individual pressed charges but didn’t win the case because of certain, just circumstantial, evidence. Including the fact that, the individual didn’t get checked out by a doctor directly after to see if the candy was the cause.
